Marketing & Field Technician
“I like translating the science behind our work into stories that a variety of people can understand and relate to,” says Jonathan, who joined Inter-Fluve in 2011. Since then, he’s become a jack-of-all-trades, performing technical writing, writing proposals, and managing our website and social media. He also helps out in the field where he performs topographical surveys using RTK and Total Station (including boat-based bathymetric methods), performs water quality monitoring, and has performed habitat data collection and analysis on rivers in the upper Columbia. “Getting into the field helps me appreciate our work and better tell our story in proposals and on the web.”
A Minnesota native, Jonathan was lured to Oregon in 1998 by its rivers and mountains. After graduating with a degree in Environmental Studies from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, he went to work as the director of a local non-profit working on land-use issues and then managed an energy efficiency program in the Columbia River Gorge.
When the workday is done, you’ll likely find him working on his house, whipping up something tasty in the kitchen, or exploring the rivers and mountains of the Gorge via bike, ski, kite, or kayak. Travel is also on the A-list. Where next? “I’d love to take a ski and eat ‘Japan-uary'”
