Project Description

Keith Kantack

Geomorphologist

A native of the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Keith is based in our Damariscotta, Maine office where his work includes geomorphic assessments, spatial analysis, topographic surveying, designing, and reporting for a range of restoration projects. What’s he like most? “Dam removal,” Keith says without hesitation. “In the northeast, we’ve been putting in dams for hundreds of years. At this point, we understand how detrimental they can be, so it’s great to have a role in undoing their impacts.”  To date, he’s worked on seven dam removals throughout the northeast “and there are more in the pipeline,” says Keith. Through his research in graduate school, the importance of high-quality restoration became obvious to Keith, which lead him to Inter-Fluve. What does he like about working here? “Our process-based approach to restoration is top notch, and across the board, ‘Fluvers are passionate, engaged people that get value from their work,” Keith says, adding that “everything we do is a net positive for the environment.”

Keith’s energy is not restricted to removing dams. On weekends you’ll likely find him skiing, running, or mountain biking. A long-time alpine and cross-country ski racer, he coaches high schoolers for the local nordic ski club and, on occasion, will jump into a race. Last year he took “a trip of a lifetime” to Svalbard (an island well north of Arctic Circle) for a ski trip and adventure. “We didn’t see any polar bears but the skiing and geology were amazing,” Keith says.
