Sondra Shah, EIT

Staff Engineer

Sondra traces her passion of protecting our water resources back to her undergraduate research in which she studied nutrient cycling in small headwater streams in the Catskill Mountains of New York. “I wasn’t into the outdoors at all when I was young – it made me uncomfortable,” says Sondra. That all changed in with “research, long days, mosquitos and strenuous uphill hikes – I loved it,” says Sondra.

After getting her feet wet in an environmental engineering internship at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, she completed a masters in engineering while working with the Charles River Watershed Association, assisting in the water quality monitoring program and the siting of green infrastructure projects in Boston, Massachusetts. Following grad school, she spent her summers performing stream assessments across the West. And before joining Inter-Fluve in 2019, Sondra got to know the underbelly of New York City through working as a staff engineer with a firm that focused on modeling for urban water infrastructure projects.

Today she’s a staff engineer based in our Cambridge, Massachusetts office. Upbeat and enthusiastic about her work, Sondra spends about half her time in the field surveying and performing construction oversight, and half in the office modeling projects, completing construction specs, and writing reports on projects throughout the Northeast including a river stabilization design project on New Hampshire’s Suncook River, ecological restoration of a 66-acre cranberry bog in Harwich, Massachusetts, and seven small dam removals for Massachusetts Department of Ecological Restoration.
