Maren Hansell, PE

Senior Water Resources Engineer, Regional Director

From “mucking about” in Minnesota’s lakes and rivers as a child to leading award-winning restoration projects across the country, Maren has made water a centerpiece of her life and career. She is a professional engineer and PSMJ-trained project manager with experience managing multidisciplinary teams to design innovative solutions for aquatic habitat restoration across the country. Her projects have included dam removals, fish passage, channel renaturalization, flood hazard mitigation, and watershed planning, and she has contributed to national standards and guidelines for nature-based solutions to water management challenges.

Since joining Inter-Fluve’s St. Paul office in 2018, Maren has focused on project management, hydrology, and hydraulics, often collaborating with landscape architects and planners to reimagine how communities can reconnect with the rivers and streams in their backyards. Known for her ability to navigate complex projects with many voices and priorities, she was project manager for the nationally recognized restoration at Arden Park on Minnehaha Creek and in 2025 she was named Young Engineer of the Year by the American Society of Civil Engineers Minnesota Section.

As Midwest Regional Director, Maren also facilitates Inter-Fluve’s internal project management training, helping grow the next generation of leaders. Outside of work, she can be found hiking, traveling, and enjoying Minnesota’s waters with her husband and son.
