Evan Schulz, PE
Water Resources Engineer
A civil engineer by training, Evan found his passion for water while studying at UCLA, where he found coursework focused on hydraulic/hydrologic processes to be especially engaging. He has a particular interest in using numerical models to visually represent complex hydrologic systems. As Evan puts it, “You can understand a system so much better when you can visualize it.”
After several years working at a land development firm in San Francisco, Evan decided to pursue a graduate program to specialize further in water resources. At Colorado State University, he got a Civil Engineering master’s degree focusing on hydraulics/river mechanics and wrote a thesis quantifying groundwater/floodplain surface water interactions in the SWAT+ ecohydrological model. While in Colorado, he was introduced to river restoration as a potential career path and was hooked.
Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Evan now lives in Boston and joined our Cambridge office in 2024. So far, he has been utilizing his CAD experience to jump into surface creation and plan set drafting and has begun developing hydraulic and hydrologic models. Evan has also found that he particularly enjoys getting out into the field for surveys to better understand the way river systems work across the country. Outside of work, you can find Evan climbing, hiking, and checking out Boston’s many microbreweries.
