Kim DeYoung

CAD Drafter

Kim joined Inter-Fluve’s Cambridge, Mass. office (she grew up just north of Boston) in 2023 as a CAD drafter. After 30 years of designing and installing  commercial HVAC systems, Kim was ready for a change. Initially attracted to the physical side of blue-collar work, she was an apprentice for five years where she fabricated ductwork for large commercial construction projects, worked her way into a CAD designer position for a sheet metal shop, and eventually became an HVAC engineer for almost two decades where she designed commercial systems.

Today she’s helping designs river restoration projects instead of HVAC systems, but fundamentally still using the same tools. As a CAD drafter at Inter-Fluve, Kim is part of a seven-person CAD team that works with our science and engineering staff around the country to develop design and construction drawings, mainly using Civil 3D. Most of her role today is in drafting but field work, including surveying, is on the horizon.
