Cameron Twombly, EIT
Staff Engineer
Coming from a multidisciplinary background, Cameron describes himself as “a restoration practitioner who also happens to be an engineer” and not the other way around. Growing up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, he spent his childhood canoeing, camping, climbing, and competitive freestyle skiing. With all of this time spent in wild spaces and natural systems, environmental science was an obvious career path for Cameron. Fascinated with learning how ecosystems function, Cameron pursued an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, but when he was introduced to the field of ecological design and engineering, he was hooked by the creative solution-based approach. Cameron pursued a master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, where his research focused on ecological landscape design and agricultural hydrology.
After a few years working on water quality and stormwater design projects, Cameron decided to immerse himself back into wild spaces and fulfill his passion for river restoration and dam removal. Cameron joined Inter-Fluve in 2023 and has been working on a variety of dam removals, fish passage improvements, and other habitat restoration projects across the country. This includes a restoration project on the Saco River in his hometown of Conway, New Hampshire. Cameron explains his work as “a marriage of engineering, ecology, and art to come up with creative solutions to environmental problems.”
Outside of work, you can find Cameron skiing, climbing, canoeing, mountain biking, and exploring the Maine coast by sailboat or surfboard. (Surfing in Maine? Cam cites “actually pretty good waves” and a “cool closeknit culture.”)
